The Bible describes the leaders of the church as being the "overseers" who keep watch over the congregation. These men are also described as "bishops," "elders," and "shepherds" (Acts 20:17-28). Each congregation of the Lord's church selects its own group of elders (Acts 14:23). These men are selected by meeting qualifications set by the Bible (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
They are responsible for making the operating decisions of the church (1 Tim. 3:5). In matters of faith, the only leader of the church is Christ (Eph. 1:22-23).
